Maxwell Hodge recognised for home buying advice

Maxwell Hodge is one of just a few firms in the region to receive official recognition for the quality of conveyancing advice they offer.

The firm has become a member of the Law Society's Conveyancing Quality Scheme (CQS) - the mark of excellence for the home buying process.

The scheme has been developed by the Law Society and gives successful firms a ‘kite mark’ of professional services. It was introduced to deter fraud within the property market.

Law Society President Linda Lee said: “CQS improves efficiency with common, consistent standards and service levels and enables consumers to recognise practices that provide a quality residential conveyancing service.

"Buying a home is one of the largest purchases anyone will make in their lifetime, so it is essential that it is done to the highest standard by a solicitor. There are many different conveyancing service providers out there, making it difficult for home buyers to identify those which can ensure a safe and efficient level of service.”

Conveyancing accreditation will be vital in the future in order to get onto the panels for building societies and it is expected that mortgage lenders will only work with firms with the CQS accreditation.

Carol Head, Director of business services, said: “Maxwell Hodge is just over 150 years old this year but we pride ourselves on being one of the most dynamic and forward thinking law firms in the city.  Acquiring this CQS status is part of our plans to develop the firm for 2012 and it will be vital for our future expansion and growth.  It’s also an endorsement of the conveyancing services we offer the public and it will also help to ensure that we will be on the panels for larger mortgage lenders as a conveyancing expert.”

To achieve and maintain CQS status, firms have to undergo assessments, annual reviews, random audits and compulsory training.

The CQS scheme has the support of the Council of Mortgage Lenders, the Building Societies Association, and the Association of British Insurers.

Maxwell Hodge is one of the region's leading law firms, operating from eight offices stretching from the head office on Castle Street, Liverpool, to Formby and the Wirral.
