Occupational asthma claims

Asthma is one of the most common respiratory problems suffered by individuals today.

A lot of people diagnosed with Asthma are unsure as to its cause. There are many factors which may increase a person’s risk of developing Asthma, genetics being one. However, certain substances that an individual may come into contact with, when carrying out their daily work, may actually cause them to suffer what is known as Occupational Asthma.

It is generally accepted that individuals who are exposed to dust from flour, grain, wood or latex gloves, and those who work with certain chemicals, for example in paint, are at risk of developing Occupational Asthma. In those circumstances, carpenters, joiners, nurses and painters are commonly affected.

Symptoms of Occupational Asthma may include:-

  • Chest tightness
  • Wheezing
  • Shortness of breath.

In many, but not all cases of Occupational Asthma, the sufferer reports that symptoms ease when they remove themselves from the dust, or chemical, that is causing their symptoms, and then find that their symptoms flare up again upon further contact.

Your employer is under a legal duty to protect you from developing Occupational Asthma.

Because of legal time limits for bringing claims for compensation, it is important that you seek legal advice promptly.
